Members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra arrived at Wizard Lake on Canada Day to serenade boaters. We waited as long as possible, but unfortunately the rain did not let up and prevented the musicians from playing on the pontoon boat.
But since the musicians had made the trip and were ready to play, they decided to treat those generous volunteers, who helped with all the organizing, to this water inspired concert, under a tent out of the rain.
Thank you to all the musicians and a special thank you to Ronda Metzsies, cello player, for gathering the musicians and organizing the musical program.
The response from the Wizard Lake community, anticipating this concert, was overwhelming. Thank you!
Musicians of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra will be presenting a program of live music from a boat on Canada Day and you are invited to enjoy the performance from your boat, maintaining social distance on the water!
The concert will consist of beautiful music inspired by water, featuring Joanna Ciapka Sangster and Heather Bergen on violin, Ethan Filner on viola, Ronda Metszies on cello, Liz Faulkner on flute and Frederick Payant on trumpet. In lieu of tickets, cash donations will be accepted from your boat at the event, with all proceeds going to support the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. You can also donate right now at winspearcentre.com/donate. All donations are tax deductible and will be matched 100% by an anonymous donor. We request boats to start assembling near Wizard Heights boat launch in the 10 km/hr zone at 1 pm, with the music (weather cooperating) starting at 2 pm. Please help us respect all Covid safety guidelines. Questions can be directed to Carole Ellsworth at 780-985-3248 or 780-868-2522.
