Board of Directors

EXECUTIVE

Blake Bartlett, Chair

I became a member of the Wizard Lake community in 1992 and only recently became an active board member of the Association. Having a residence bordering the shoreline, I see the need to preserve this environmentally sensitive area of Wizard Lake whereby nature, animal life and humans can coexist.

My wife and I have owned our property on the SW corner of Wizard Lake since 2001.  Being raised on a farm in northern Alberta gave me an appreciation of nature and wildlife.

We love the natural beauty of this area and feel it's important to work hard to preserve it for ourselves and future generations.

I have been enjoying Wizard Lake for approximately 25 years. First, I started coming out with my best friend and his family who had a camp site on the North side of the lake and later bought a cabin on Curilane B. We spent many weekends camping and countless hours on the water and I will never forget it.
For the past 6 years we have been spending weekends at the lake camping while residing in Calmar until recently, when we purchased my wife’s family’s lake lot that they have owned since the late 70’s. We now live on Curilane A year round and even enjoy winter at the lake!
Now that we own property on the lake we have realized an importance for preserving the well-being of the lake. We decided to join the WLWLSA in an effort to give back to the community that we have enjoyed for so long. As well, to gain some knowledge about the lake and what we can do to make it enjoyable for many years to come.

Becoming a member of the WLWSA in 2016 was important to me because that was the year that my husband and I purchased my family’s home on the shore of Wizard lake. The property has been in my family for more than 45 years. I grew up at Wizard Lake and have witnessed it transition into what it is today, from a quiet, barely populated lake to a community thriving with many year round residents. As well has become a desirable destination for fishing and water sports. I see the benefits of protecting and preserving the lake and shoreline as best we can, so my family, and others can enjoy it for many years to come.

I am enjoying retirement on the northwest shore of Wizard Lake, on RR 275, with my wife Carole.  I worked as a Facilities Manager for the Alberta Government for 30 years.

I was one of the founding members of WLWLSA and have taken an active role as director and treasurer.  I was fortunate enough to be on the Board of Directors of the Alberta Stewardship Network for 4 years.  This position took me throughout Alberta to become educated on addressing various stewardship issues.

I enjoy hunting, fishing and camping, which holds me close to Lake Stewardship activities and healthy ecosystems.

I have been involved with getting the bulletin boards installed in the 8 communities around the lake, inlet stream sampling, boating safety focus group and my most recent project was having the State of the Watershed report completed.

My goal is to make sure that whatever activity takes place within the watershed; it is done in the most environmentally friendly way possible.  I want a healthy Wizard Lake for my grandchildren to enjoy.

I became familiar with Wizard Lake when I met my wife Jannette in 1997. Her family moved to the south shore of the lake in the 70’s, and developed a strong attachment to the area. Since then, I have inherited her love of the lake and its surrounding community.
I joined the Association in 2016, in hopes that my interest in the natural sciences, development, and conservation will contribute to the well-being of the watershed, and make a positive impact for future generations.
